Options

Nanomechanics provides a number of options and enhancements for the iNano, iMicro, NanoFlip, and InSEM products. These options are designed to extend the range of capabilities of the systems to allow users to explore additional dimensions of testing, operate the system with greater ease, customize test recipes, and enable advanced control of the system.


User Method Development

Nanomechanics’ iNano and iMicro nanoindenters are provided with a set of powerful methods that are applicable for most research.  As it is not possible to predict all the loading conditions and material responses that are possible when nanoindenters are used to explore a vast array of materials science and engineering challenges, the User Method Development option is available, which extends and enhances the nanoindenter’s capabilities in terms of the user’s ability to customize experiments.

With the User Method Development option, users can change default parameters for inputs, edit post-test calculations, and save edited methods for re-use, as well as make changes to the instrument control.

Polymer Pack

The Polymer Pack provides users with the ability to measure the complex modulus of polymers as a function of frequency.  The Pack includes a flat-punch tip, a viscoelastic reference material, and a test method for evaluation of viscoelastic properties.  The Polymer Pack method utilizes Nanomechanics Dynamics capability, which is built in to all of our systems.

Thin Film Method Pack

The Thin Film Method Pack provides users with a test method for substrate-independent evaluation of thin films.  The largest application of this is for evaluation of low-k films on silicon.

NanoBlitz 3D Fast Indentation & Property Mapping

NanoBlitz 3D utilizes the InForce 50 Actuator to perform 3D map testing on materials with high E (>3GPa) with a Berkovich tip.  NanoBlitz will perform indents in under 1 second per indent up to 10000 indents (300×300 array), and will provide E, H, S at a specified load for each indent in the array.  Indentation spacing is 200nm when used with the NanoFlip system or 2 micron spacing when used with iNano or iMicro.  NanoBlitz utilizes a constant strain rate method, and is provided with Visualization Software and Data Handling capabilities.

NanoBlitz 4D Mechanical Property Tomography

NanoBlitz 4D utilizes the InForce 50 Actuator to perform 4D map testing on materials with low E/H and high E (>3GPa) with a Berkovich tip.  NanoBlitz will perform indents in 5-10 seconds per indent up to 1000 indents (30×30 array), and will provide E, H, S as a function of depth for each indent in the array.  Minimum indentation spacing is 200nm when used with the NanoFlip system or 2 micron spacing when used with iNano or iMicro.  NanoBlitz 4D utilizes a constant strain rate method, and is provided with Visualization Software and Data Handling capabilities.

Remote Video Option for iNano

The Remote Video Option for the iNano provides two different viewing angles within the iNano chamber in addition to the existing microscope objective.  One bracket is mounted on the extension axis for focusing on the indenter tip during the test.  The second bracket mounts on the gantry for viewing the sample and the microscope objective during test setup.  Switching the view between the standard microscope objective and the USB camera is done conveniently within the software.

Scratch Testing

Scratch testing involves the application of a constant or ramped load to an indenter while moving across the sample surface at a specified velocity. Scratch testing can shed light into numerous material systems including thin films, brittle ceramics, and polymers to name a few. Nanomechanics, Inc. offers the ability to perform scratch testing on the iNano, iMicro and NanoFlip nanoindentation systems. Some of the features of scratch testing include:

  • Multiple indenter geometries (Berkovich, Cube Corner, Spheres)
  • Pre-test and post-test surface topography scans
  • Indenter tip protection
  • Cross-profile topography
  • Friendly software user interface with data analysis.

Single Crystal Tungsten Carbide High Temperature Tips

Nanomechanics offers single crystal tungsten carbide tips on a molybdenum holder for use in high temperature test applications.

These tips also feature high electrical conductivity and so are suitable for use in both in-situ and ambient experiments.

InForce 50 Indenter Head for iMicro Nanoindenter

The iMicro Nanoindenter allows users to quickly interchange between the standard InForce 1000 indenter head with 1N of load, and the InForce 50 indenter head (the standard head on the iNano, NanoFlip, and InSEM systems).  Simply disconnect one wire connector and 4 screws and you are ready to unlock a range of versatility that only iMicro can offer.

Biomaterial Pack

The Biomaterials Pack provides users with the ability to measure the complex modulus of biomaterials with shear moduli on the order of 1 kPa.  The Pack includes a flat-punch tip and a test method for evaluation of viscoelastic properties.  The Biomaterials Pack method utilizes Nanomechanics Dynamics capability, which is built in to all of our systems.
